Habari from Mombasa
March 15, 2009 at 11:17 pm | Posted in Project Update | Leave a commentMary Lou and I have been so busy here, and had little time for the Internet. Aside from our training, and preparing day-to-day, we have spent our weekends visiting the communities where our students live, and attending their outreach events. They are very talented and dedicated young people, raising awareness on HIV/Aids, Stigma, and other important topics. We have made many friends here, and are being treated very well by everyone we meet. This is a very kind and caring culture.
Here are a few photos to give you a flavour of our life here in Mombasa.

Getting Settled in Mombasa
February 26, 2009 at 11:51 pm | Posted in Project Update | Leave a commentMary Lou and I arrived in Mombasa on Tuesday, and have been very busy ever since. We’ve set up our apartment, met our YCI Liaison, Kasena and another YCI volunteer named Emmy, and finalized arrangements at the Wogect Centre, where we will be delivering our workshops. The people we’ve met have all been so friendly and helpful – we are being treated very very well! Mombasa is a large and busy city, and we’re beginning to find our way around. Transportation is very different here, with Matatus (small vans that run regular routes), Tuk-Tuks (3-wheel vehicles) and lots of hand-carts piled high with just about anything (potatoes, crates, flour, cages of live chickens, etc.), in addition to lots of cars, taxis, trucks and motorbikes.
